Your Opinion Counts

The North Carolina Art Education Association is conducting a survey of ALL of the North Carolina visual arts educators to learn more about what you think we do well, what we could do better, and what you would like to see in this state professional organization. We would appreciate you taking a few minutes to complete the survey.  We are a professional, non-profit, membership organization.  Your opinion counts!  The survey will be open until May 1st.  At that time the NCAEA Executive Board will collate and evaluate the answers.   We value your time, so the survey is designed to only ask you pertinent questions. The most anyone will answer will be 25 questions. Please be candid in your answers.   Scroll down, a link to the survey is at the bottom of the Links menu on the right.

New Issue of By Design is Available

For the forseeable future, rather than mailing By Design, we are making it available as a PDF document on the website that you can either download or print.  This issue has presentation forms for the Professional Development Conference.  this issue will also be archived on the By Design page for future reference.  A big thanks to Danny for helping make this possible.

Jaune Quick-to-See Smith at PDC 2008

We are excited to tell you that our keynote speaker for the 2008 NCAEA Professional Development Conference in Asheville will be Jaune Quick-to-See Smith.   The conference will be held from November 6 – 9.

Jaune Quick-to-See Smith uses humor and satire to examine myths, stereotypes and the paradox of American Indian life in contrast to the consumerism of American society. Her work is philosophically centered by her strong traditional beliefs and political activism.

Smith is internationally known as an artist, curator, lecturer, printmaker and teacher. She was born at St. Ignatius Mission on the Flathead Reserve and is an enrolled Flathead Salish member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Indian Nation. Her work is in collections at the Whitney Museum, the Metropolitan Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Walker and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Jaune will be the Saturday keynote speaker and will also lead a printmaking workshop.  You are urged to make your reservations early for this exciting event.  The conference is being held at the Asheville Renaissance Marriott.  Reservations can be made by calling 1-828-252-8211, or toll free at 1-800-359-7951.
